Non-Suicidial Self-Injury: Developing Measures to Assess Readiness to Change
Using the Transtheoretical Model of Change (TTM) as a framework, we are working to better understand the recovery process from self-injury. We conducted interviews with 32 individuals who self-injure, coded these transcripts, and plan to create and test measures in a survey. Ultimately, we hope to develop tools which will help professionals screen and more effectively respond based on the stage of change readiness in youth exhibiting self-injury behavior.
Upcoming Project Activities
Develop survey items (measures) using 32 coded interview transcripts and relevant literature
Distribute a survey to 320 individuals who have self-injured 5 or more times to test the psychometric properties of these measures
Develop and disseminate inervention tools
